Iceland is a beautiful place to live (and visit!), but as it turns out, it's a pretty safe place to drive, too. According to an article by Iceland Review, 2019 is shaping up to be the first year in 80 where there have been no fatal traffic accidents.
"Almost four months into 2019, and no fatal traffic accidents have been reported in the country whatsoever, a remarkable occurrence that has not taken place since 1940."
The best take away from this, however, just might be that with the right safety practices in place, roads can become safer for anyone.
"An expert says better driver education and higher rates of seatbelt use are among the factors working together to reduce accident mortality in the country."
In places where traffic fatalities number in the thousands every year, we can sometimes think of collisions and fatalities as inevitable. In reality, small things like buckling up, slowing down, and having the proper training, can make a huge difference. To see the difference these things have made in Iceland is good news for everyone (not just those who live in Iceland)!
